The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has intensified efforts to contain the ongoing Ebola disease outbreak through enhanced surveillance, contact tracing, laboratory testing and the distribution of essential protective supplies to high-risk states.

The agency disclosed this in an update on its ongoing response activities, noting that it continued to hold daily Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) meetings to assess progress, coordinate interventions and identify priority areas requiring urgent attention.

According to the NCDC, the meetings bring together key response teams responsible for laboratory services, disease surveillance, risk communication and community engagement, among other critical areas.

The agency said the response was being coordinated under the leadership of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Federal Capital Territory Administration, relevant ministries, departments and agencies, and development partners.

As part of the containment measures, the NCDC said activities included tracing and monitoring contacts of suspected or confirmed cases, mobilising laboratory testing kits, and supplying personal protective equipment (PPE) and other essential materials to states considered at high risk.

The agency also highlighted investigations being conducted by Port Health Services in collaboration with aviation stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen health security at points of entry.

It stressed that coordinated action among government agencies, response partners and communities remained essential to containing the outbreak and preventing further transmission.

The NCDC further urged Nigerians to support public health interventions by staying informed and cooperating with relevant health authorities.

“Through coordinated action, timely information and public cooperation, we remain focused on protecting the health of Nigerians,” the agency stated in its update shared under the hashtag #TodayAtNCDC.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to coordinating response efforts and strengthening measures aimed at safeguarding public health across the country.
