Julius Bokoru, Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, has faulted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for declaring his principal wanted, describing the move as a “coordinated political onslaught” designed to tarnish Sylva’s image.
In a statement issued late Monday, Bokoru said the EFCC’s announcement—made via its social media platforms—did not follow any formal communication channel or established procedure. He described the development as another attempt in a series of efforts to portray the former governor in a bad light.
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday announced via social media that it had declared Chief Timipre Sylva wanted. No formal communication was extended to him, and no established protocol was observed,” the statement read.
Bokoru further alleged that the latest accusations against Sylva are inconsistent with previous claims, calling for a fair and transparent investigation into the matter.
He explained that Sylva remains committed to the rule of law and will respond to the EFCC’s invitation after completing his ongoing medical check-up in the United Kingdom.
Expressing confidence in Sylva’s innocence, Bokoru said the refinery project mentioned in the EFCC’s notice is a legitimate and verifiable venture, backed by proper documentation.
“To our friends, allies, and well-wishers: this, too, shall pass. Truth, though often delayed, remains consistent. Those behind this campaign will not prevail,” he stated.
