Benin City, Edo State, has been thrown into mourning following the death of renowned entrepreneur and educationist, Deacon (Ambassador) Daniel Nosakhare Eghobamien, who passed away at the age of 95.
Eghobamien, the founder of the iconic Nosakhare Bakery, established the business in 1968 and rose to prominence for producing the widely loved “Plymouth Brown Bread” and “Bicycle Bread,” household staples for generations of residents in Benin City.
Beyond baking, he made an indelible mark in the education sector with the establishment of the Nosakhare Model Education Centre in 1996. Located along Upper Mission Road, the school began as a multi-purpose facility before Eghobamien, following spiritual and professional counsel, dedicated the building fully to education.
A pioneer in child-focused learning, he was among the first in the region to adopt the pure Montessori method for early childhood education. In 2002, he further expanded the school’s impact by introducing a Skills Acquisition Centre, ensuring students combined academic learning with practical vocational skills.
His death marks the end of an era for two institutions that have become household names in Benin City and beyond, leaving behind a legacy of entrepreneurship, education, and community development.
May his soul rest in peace.
