A protest broke out on Thursday at the Etsako West Local Government Council Secretariat of Edo State as a group of workers expressed frustration over what they described as a six-month delay in the payment of their salaries.
The protesters gathered within the council premises, chanting solidarity songs and demanding immediate attention to their concerns. According to some of the demonstrators, repeated attempts to engage the council authorities on the issue had not yielded the desired results.
During the protest, access to the council chairman’s office was temporarily restricted as tensions heightened. Security personnel were seen attempting to maintain order while urging the protesters to remain peaceful.
As of the time of this report, the demonstration was still ongoing, and efforts to reach the local government leadership for an official response were unsuccessful.
