The Federal Government has launched a Digital Standards Platform aimed at modernising Nigeria’s quality assurance system, improving public procurement, and boosting the competitiveness of Made-in-Nigeria products in local and international markets.

The platform, developed through a partnership between the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), and Goringo Consult Limited, provides manufacturers, businesses, procurement officers, and consumers with easier access to Nigerian Industrial Standards, certification services, compliance requirements, and product verification tools.

The initiative is part of the Federal Government’s broader drive to accelerate industrialisation, improve the ease of doing business, and encourage the production of high-quality goods that can compete effectively in regional and global markets.

A key feature of the platform is the introduction of the Nigerian Industrial Standards Attestation Certificate, which is now mandatory for companies bidding for Federal Government contracts involving goods, works, and services where Nigerian Industrial Standards apply.

According to government officials, the new requirement is designed to strengthen quality assurance in public procurement by ensuring that contractors supplying goods and services to government institutions comply with nationally approved standards.

Speaking at the official unveiling of the platform in Abuja, the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh, described the initiative as a landmark reform that would reinforce Nigeria’s industrial development agenda and support the implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s Nigeria First Policy.

Enoh said the platform goes beyond being a digital solution, describing it as a strategic tool that will reshape Nigeria’s manufacturing sector by making quality standards and certification services more accessible.

“Today is not merely the unveiling of a technology solution; it is the opening of a new chapter in Nigeria’s quality journey, a chapter in which standards move from the shelf to the screen, and from the screen into the daily life of every Nigerian enterprise,” the minister said.

He stressed that sustainable industrial growth depends on the quality of products manufactured within an economy, adding that globally accepted standards remain the foundation of successful industrial nations.

The government believes the Digital Standards Platform will enhance regulatory compliance, improve transparency in public procurement, and position Nigerian manufacturers to compete more effectively in both domestic and international markets.
