The Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Social Investment Programmes (Widows Welfare Scheme), Elder Isioma Okonta, has praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his sustained commitment to the welfare of vulnerable widows across the state.

Elder Okonta gave the commendation during a media engagement in his office in Asaba, noting that the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme has continued to bring relief, dignity and renewed hope to thousands of widows.

According to him, the governor has ensured the prompt payment of monthly stipends to widows enrolled in the scheme, adding that the November stipends have been successfully paid to 10,000 beneficiaries spread across the state.

He explained that the financial support is aimed at improving the livelihood of the widows and helping them meet basic daily needs.

Beyond financial assistance, Dr. Okonta disclosed that the scheme also provides free healthcare services to beneficiaries in approved hospitals, thereby relieving them of the burden of medical expenses and ensuring access to quality healthcare.

He stated that the programme has had a profound impact on the lives of many widows, transforming their pains and struggles into joy and renewed confidence in government support.

Elder Okonta described Governor Oborevwori as a compassionate and listening leader, whose kindness, benevolence and dedication to the poor and vulnerable have remained evident through people-oriented policies.

He said the governor has proven to be a promise keeper who has taken the welfare of widows as a personal responsibility.

He added that the Widows Welfare Scheme stands as a shining example of Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to social welfare, noting that the initiative has earned the governor recognition as a welfare-driven leader.

According to him, the programme ranks among the best of its kind in Nigeria.

Okonta concluded that the governor’s continued investment in social welfare programmes, including the Widows Welfare Scheme, reflects his resolve to ensure that the most vulnerable members of society are adequately cared for and supported.
