The Ibrede Grammar School Old Students’ Association has commended Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his bold initiative to rehabilitate dilapidated public schools across the state, urging him to include the institution in the government’s proposed renovation programme.
The Chairman of the Association, Mr. Iruke Ubiomo, made the appeal while expressing optimism that Ibrede Grammar School, located in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State, would receive the much-needed facelift as it approaches its 50th anniversary in 2027.
Ubiomo noted that the school, established in 1977, was in dire need of comprehensive rehabilitation and structural transformation, describing the deteriorating condition of its facilities as a major concern.
According to him, several school buildings are in a deplorable state, with roofs caving in and structures showing significant signs of deterioration and damage.
“The school structures are now shadows of their former selves, with roofs giving way and buildings becoming dilapidated and badly damaged. The situation calls for urgent restructuring, rehabilitation and resuscitation,” he said.
The association chairman expressed confidence in Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to improving public education through the state government’s MORE Agenda, appealing to the governor to give Ibrede Grammar School priority in the planned intervention.
He said the proposed rehabilitation would not only restore the school’s physical structures but also improve the learning environment and renew the institution’s standing as a centre of academic development.
Ubiomo also highlighted the commitment of the Old Students’ Association to the continued development of their alma mater, noting that members had made efforts in the past to prevent the school from being abandoned.
He reaffirmed the association’s readiness to collaborate with the Delta State Government to restore the school’s facilities and raise its educational standards.
According to him, the association remains committed to the philosophy of “building the school that built us,” stressing that the rehabilitation of the institution would be a fitting way to celebrate its golden jubilee in 2027.
Ubiomo expressed hope that Governor Oborevwori would respond positively to the appeal and help fulfil the aspirations of former students, staff and the wider Ibrede community.
He further commended the governor for the commissioning of the Model Technical College in Oghareki, Oghara Kingdom, in Ethiope West Local Government Area, describing the development as a significant step towards strengthening technical and vocational education in Delta State.
The association chairman expressed optimism that a similar commitment to educational infrastructure would extend to Ibrede Grammar School, enabling the institution to celebrate its 50th anniversary with renewed facilities and a more conducive learning environment.
