ABUJA — The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has questioned the Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, as part of its ongoing investigation into the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Gbajabiamila’s lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, confirmed on Monday that the presidential aide honoured the commission’s invitation and appeared before investigators at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja.

According to Ogunye, Gbajabiamila arrived at the commission’s office at about 3:00 p.m., where he gave a statement and answered questions relating to the investigation before returning to his official duties.

“In full cooperation with the ICPC, acting as directed by the President of Nigeria, I hereby confirm that my client, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, responded to the invitation of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and appeared at about 15:00hrs on Monday, July 20, 2026, as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the ‘PFIPC’ fake agency, among others,” Ogunye said.

He added that the Chief of Staff fully cooperated with investigators, provided his testimony, responded to all questions, and subsequently returned to his duty post.

The probe follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive on July 2 ordering the ICPC to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the PFIPC controversy after allegations emerged that the council was operating without lawful establishment.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga had announced that the President instructed the anti-corruption agency to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a comprehensive report within 30 days.

The ICPC investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the creation and activities of the controversial PFIPC and determine whether any public officials violated the law.
