The Front Page of the New Nigerian, on Monday, January 12, 1970, the day Colonel Olusegun Obasanjo defeated the rebel Republic of Biafra, and captured their remaining leaders after Lt. Colonel Emeka Ojukwu fled. After formally surrendering to Colonel Obasanjo, Mr. Obasanjo then brought the entire leadership, sans Ojukwu, to Dodan Barracks, Lagos, where they also surrendered to General Yakubu Gowon and swore allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
