BENIN CITY, Edo State – The International Friendship League (IFL), Edo South Chapter, has announced plans to commemorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day on June 12, 2026, with a special gathering focused on leadership, good governance, and national development.

According to a statement issued by the organization, the event is themed “Leadership and Good Governance for Sustainable Development” and is expected to bring together distinguished personalities from different sectors of society for reflection, dialogue, and national engagement.

The celebration is scheduled to hold on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the Banquet Hall of View Point Hotel, Ikpokpan, Government Reservation Area (GRA), Benin City, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The IFL noted that the programme follows the success of its Independence Day celebration held on October 1, 2025, at Protea Hotel, Benin City, which attracted prominent citizens and stakeholders from various walks of life. The impact of that event, according to the organization, led to a follow-up engagement at the same venue the following week.

Organizers disclosed that activities lined up for the Democracy Day celebration include musical performances, scholarly discussions on the theme, pastoral exhortation and prayers for Nigeria, an interactive session, and a banquet.

Speaking on behalf of the organizers, Pastor Bernard Odior, Chairman of the Protocol Committee, said the event aims to promote conversations around effective leadership and good governance as essential drivers of sustainable national development.

Attendance at the event is strictly by invitation, while invited guests have been encouraged to confirm their participation ahead of the programme.

The invitation was endorsed by Pastor Blankson Dudun, State Overseer of Edo South Deeper Life Bible Church.
