Integrity Group Mourns Unity Adeda, Urges Calm as Inquiry Begins
The Integrity Group of Nigeria, Delta State Chapter, has expressed condolences to the organised labour in Delta State, the state government and the family of late Mr. Unity Adeda over his death last weekend.
The group conveyed its condolences through its Director of Organised Labour Matters, Sir Lawson Efenudu, who spoke on behalf of the organisation.
Efenudu was accompanied by the Director-General/National Convener, Dr. Oke Hezx Idawene; State Chairman, Comrade Bolum Nwachukwu; State Secretary, Barr. Mrs. Franca Ekeh; Deputy National Director of Media, Comrade Weyinmi Ufuoma Onovughakpo; and the group’s State Media Consultant, Dr. Chidi Peters.
In his address, Efenudu said the group received the news of Adeda’s death with shock and sadness, describing the incident as a painful loss to his family and the organised labour movement.
He appealed to members of the organised labour in the state to remain calm and allow the Panel of Inquiry constituted by the Delta State Government to carry out its responsibilities and establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
Efenudu also urged political actors and other stakeholders, particularly opposition political parties, not to politicise the incident or exploit the death for political purposes.
The Integrity Group further called on the Nigeria Police and other relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
According to the group, its members decided to appear in mufti as a mark of solidarity and mourning, noting that the organisation is a political pressure and support group that works in synergy with organised labour and is identified by its use of white clothing as a symbol of integrity.
The group prayed for the repose of Adeda’s soul and asked God to grant his family, members of the organised labour and the Delta State Government the strength to bear the loss.
