Joe Omene at 80: Senator Dafinone Hails Former UPU President-General’s Legacy

Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has congratulated former President-General of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Chief Engr. Joe Omene, on the occasion of his 80th birthday anniversary, describing him as a distinguished leader, elder statesman, and dedicated servant of the Urhobo Nation.

 

In a goodwill message issued on Saturday, June 20, 2026, Senator Dafinone said Chief Omene’s contributions to the preservation and promotion of Urhobo culture, identity, values, and traditions remain significant and worthy of commendation.

 

The lawmaker noted that Omene’s leadership of the UPU and his unwavering advocacy for the unity, progress, and dignity of the Urhobo people came at a critical period in the history of the ethnic nationality.

 

“Chief Engr. Joe Omene’s contributions to the preservation and promotion of Urhobo culture, identity, values, and traditions remain commendable. His leadership of the UPU and his advocacy for the unity, progress, and dignity of the Urhobo people at a critical time in our history are worthy of recognition,” Dafinone stated.

 

The senator further praised the octogenarian for his wisdom, courage, and sacrifices in service to the Urhobo people, noting that his life of dedication continues to inspire younger generations to embrace the values of unity, integrity, and commitment to community development.

 

As Chief Omene marks his 80th birthday, Dafinone prayed for God’s continued blessings upon him, including good health, renewed strength, peace, and many more fruitful years of service to humanity and the Urhobo Nation.

 

“His life of service continues to inspire younger generations to uphold the values of unity, integrity, and commitment to community development. I pray that Almighty God will continue to bless Chief Engr. Joe Omene with good health, renewed strength, peace, and many more fruitful years as he continues to offer his wealth of experience and wisdom in the service of the Urhobo Nation and humanity,” the senator added.

 

Chief Engr. Joe Omene is widely regarded as one of the foremost leaders of the Urhobo Nation, having played notable roles in advancing the interests, unity, and development of the Urhobo people through his leadership and public service.
