Former President Goodluck Jonathan has commended former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, for documenting his life experiences and contributions to nation-building in his newly unveiled autobiography titled “My Life of Duty and Allegiance.”
Jonathan gave the commendation while speaking at the public presentation of the book, which attracted distinguished Nigerians, government officials, military officers, and prominent dignitaries.
According to the former President, autobiographies written by leaders who played significant roles in shaping Nigeria’s history are invaluable in preserving the country’s collective memory for future generations.
“I commend General Gowon for documenting his rich experiences, reflections, and years of service to our nation,” Jonathan stated.
He noted that books written by leaders who witnessed critical moments in Nigeria’s history firsthand serve as important historical resources for scholars, policymakers, military officers, students, and citizens seeking deeper understanding of the nation’s journey.
Jonathan expressed confidence that Gowon’s autobiography would contribute significantly to conversations around national unity, peace, and progress.
“I am confident that this autobiography will serve as an important resource for scholars, policymakers, military officers, students, and all Nigerians seeking a deeper understanding of the complex but remarkable story of our nation, as well as the enduring pursuit of unity, peace, and progress for a better and safer future for our children,” he said.
The former President also congratulated Gowon on what he described as a landmark achievement and prayed for God’s continued strength, wisdom, peace, and good health upon the elder statesman.
General Gowon’s autobiography, “My Life of Duty and Allegiance,” chronicles his military career, leadership journey, and role in some of Nigeria’s most defining historical moments.
