The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has clarified that a truck intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ondo State with 2,145kg of cannabis is not owned by the company.
NNPCL, in a statement, commended the NDLEA for its vigilance and professionalism in intercepting the truck, which was reportedly found with the illicit drug concealed in a compartment.
The company said it welcomed the NDLEA’s action and supported a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the consignment and the identity of those responsible.
According to NNPCL, the clarification became necessary following reports linking the intercepted truck to the national oil company.
The company stressed that the vehicle was not an NNPCL truck, distancing itself from the illicit consignment and any activities associated with the transportation of the cannabis.
NNPCL also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting relevant government agencies in efforts to combat drug trafficking and other forms of criminality in the country.
The company said it would continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity and compliance while cooperating with authorities on matters that could affect its operations and reputation.
The NDLEA had reportedly intercepted the truck in Ondo State following intelligence-led operations, leading to the discovery of the large quantity of cannabis concealed in a compartment of the vehicle.
The oil company urged the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
