The POWER Consolidation Team, one of the campaign groups in the 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council elections, has suspended its campaign activities in honour of two bereaved colleagues.
The team said the decision followed the death of the daughter of a journalist, Comrade Giovanni Emephia, and the death of another member of the journalism community, Comrade Timenyi Odudu.
In a statement signed by its Director-General, Comrade Barth Ozah, the team said the suspension was deliberate and aimed at respecting the sensibilities of the journalism community in the state during the period of mourning.
According to the statement, the campaign activities will remain suspended until Monday, September 28, 2026.
The team said, “at a moment such as this, the values of humanity, compassion and solidarity should take precedence over campaign activities.”
It appealed to its supporters, friends and well-wishers to understand and support the decision as the team joins the bereaved families in mourning their losses.
The POWER Consolidation Team also expressed condolences to the families of Emephia and Odudu, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear their losses.
The statement concluded with a prayer for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
