Political stakeholders and residents of Delta State have expressed mixed reactions following comments made by Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori during a recent appearance on Arise Television, where he called on citizens to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.

The governor reportedly urged Deltans to vote for President Tinubu, describing him as “our in-law” and “my number one project” emphasizing the need for the state to support his administration.

According to Oborevwori, Delta State should rally behind the President in future elections, arguing that maintaining a cordial relationship with the Federal Government would be beneficial to the state.

However, the governor’s remarks have generated criticism from some residents and political observers, who believe his primary focus should remain on governance and the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of Delta State.

Several respondents argued that the prevailing economic challenges facing Nigerians should take precedence over early political campaigns and endorsements. They urged the governor to concentrate on implementing policies and programmes that would improve the welfare of citizens and advance his administration’s MORE Agenda.

Some critics also expressed concern over what they described as premature political positioning, insisting that Governor Oborevwori should focus on consolidating his achievements and completing his first term successfully before engaging in discussions about future elections.

They warned that excessive involvement in national political campaigns could distract from governance and potentially affect public perception of his administration.

The reactions also followed comments made by the governor during the television interview in which he reportedly criticized former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, while expressing support for President Tinubu.

Observers noted that while many Deltans remain supportive of Governor Oborevwori’s administration and his developmental agenda, they expect greater attention to issues affecting the state’s economic growth, infrastructure development, job creation, and social welfare.

As political conversations ahead of future elections continue to gather momentum, stakeholders maintain that the governor’s performance in office and the successful implementation of his MORE Agenda will remain key factors in determining public support for his administration.
