Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Thursday led a formidable contingent of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders to Ugo, in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, where hundreds of new supporters were received into the party in a show of renewed strength, unity, and strategic mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The rally, described by party chieftains as one of the largest political gatherings in the district in recent years, consolidates APC’s soaring influence across Edo South while amplifying the state’s alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and future political direction.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Governor Okpebholo delivered a firm message on the party’s resolve. “Asiwaju is coming back. Is this not something that has been settled in Edo State; that Asiwaju is coming back?”

We make this declaration because of the progress we have made in advancing the welfare, security and infrastructural development we are giving our people in the state.he declared” reaffirming Edo APC’s loyalty to the President.

The Governor, in a bold jab at the opposition, added: “If they like, let the opposition kidnap all of us. We are not afraid of them. We will match them.” He noted that the performance of his administration has already validated the trust reposed in him at the polls. “Is Edo not shining? What you voted for, are you not seeing the dividends? When you voted for me, is it not to see the performance you are seeing today?”

Okpebholo also seized the opportunity to address lingering infrastructural concerns in the area, particularly the deplorable state of the roads. “When I was coming, I got to a point where I was deeply thinking about what to urgently do in addressing the deplorable condition of the road

because the only access road to the community is in a very bad condition. I felt the people living around here would be visiting hospitals frequently because of the bad road. But the good news is this; by this time next year, we will come to see how it has changed,” he assured.

Reiterating Edo’s commitment to the national leadership, the Governor pledged overwhelming support in the next presidential election. “We are coming back here to celebrate the 2.5 million votes we promised Mr. President,” he stated.

The State Deputy Chairman of the APC, Sylvester Aigbobo, officially received the decampees, led by Ambassador Westley Asoro, in a ceremony that drew applause and solidified the party’s expanding grassroots base.

The event witnessed the presence of several high-ranking figures, including the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu; Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilo, Esq, former deputy governor of the state,Dr. Pius Odubu and the APC National Women Leader, among others.

Thursday’s rally marks a significant political milestone for the APC in Edo South, signalling heightened mobilisation, strengthened party structures, and a clear affirmation of loyalty to President Tinubu as the countdown to 2027 quietly intensifies.
