The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Ifechukwu Dennis, the suspected mastermind behind a fraudulent scheme in which he allegedly used a fake voice purported to be that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
Dennis was apprehended in Benin City by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) crack investigative team following intelligence-led operations.
According to information provided by the Presidency, the suspect allegedly created and circulated the manipulated voice recordings, presenting them as authentic messages from President Tinubu in a bid to mislead and defraud gullible targets.
A detailed statement on the arrest and the ongoing investigation is expected to be issued by the Nigeria Police Force.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga disclosed the development, noting that the arrest marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to combat misinformation, impersonation, and cyber-enabled fraud.
