BENIN CITY, EDO STATE – Residents and traders in Benin City have expressed excitement over the ongoing construction of the Ramat Park Flyover, following an inspection visit by Governor Monday Okpebholo, who announced that the project is scheduled for commissioning in November.
Speaking to journalists after touring the project site on Wednesday, Governor Okpebholo said he was impressed with the pace and quality of work, noting that the flyover and the surrounding road infrastructure had significantly transformed the area.
“We have gone round to see how far the construction of the Ramat Park Flyover has progressed. Apart from the flyover, the road network within the area is equally commendable,” the governor said.
He added that extensive work was also being carried out on the stormwater drainage system to address flooding concerns and improve the overall environment.
“This place is now more beautiful than it was before. We are also making serious progress in the stormwater drainage system around the facility,” he stated.
Okpebholo expressed optimism that the project would be completed in time for commissioning in November, coinciding with activities marking his second year in office. He disclosed that President Bola Tinubu is expected to commission the project.
“We are hoping that President Bola Tinubu will come to commission this project by November during the celebration of my two years in office. Before then, we would have made a lot of progress. The park should also be ready, making this place very beautiful and attractive,” he said.
According to the governor, the upgraded facility is already drawing attention from residents and visitors, describing it as a potential tourist attraction.
“You can see how excited the children and residents are. They are happy and having fun, and if you ask me, that is the essence,” he added.
The governor also commended the Federal Government’s removal of fuel subsidy, saying the policy had enhanced the financial capacity of state governments through increased allocations.
Meanwhile, the Project Manager, Li Jianshou, disclosed that construction work on the flyover had reached over 95 per cent completion.
He explained that the remaining tasks include the installation of streetlights, expansion of adjoining junctions, road markings, and painting of the bridge.
Jianshou assured residents that the project would be delivered on schedule for commissioning in November.
Residents and traders who gathered during the inspection applauded the governor and expressed satisfaction with the development.
Mrs Queen Ehanire, a resident of the area, said the project had transformed the landscape of Ikpoba Hill and renewed confidence among residents and business owners.
“Benin is more beautiful compared to past years. Governor Okpebholo has done well with this project,” she said.
Another resident, Mr James Osaigbovo, noted that the completed flyover would attract more visitors and stimulate economic activities around the area.
A commercial driver, Mr David Uwadia, expressed hope that the redesigned park and improved road infrastructure would ease traffic congestion and enhance transportation within the city.
The Ramat Park Flyover is one of the flagship infrastructure projects of the Edo State Government aimed at improving traffic flow, urban renewal, and economic development in Benin City.
