A public affairs commentator, Wilson Okorugbo, has commended the Sapele Local Government Area (LGA) Executive of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for endorsing Senator Ede Dafinone for a second term, describing the move as a strong vote of confidence from his political base.
In a statement, Okorugbo said the endorsement by the Sapele APC leadership was not driven by pressure or sentiment, but by conviction rooted in the senator’s performance and accessibility.
Citing the popular saying that “a prophet is without honour in his own home,” the commentator argued that Dafinone has reversed that narrative, noting that an endorsement from one’s home base reflects tested trust and visible representation.
According to him, the Sapele declaration underscores three key factors: performance, trust, and capacity. He stated that second-term endorsements from a leader’s immediate political constituency are typically earned through responsiveness, measurable impact, and sustained engagement.
“The first term is often a season of evaluation, while the second term is a reward for proven service,” Okorugbo wrote, adding that the endorsement signals that Dafinone has successfully passed the test of leadership in the eyes of his constituents.
He further maintained that continuity would strengthen Delta Central’s bargaining power at the national level, particularly in legislative influence and federal advocacy.
Describing the Sapele endorsement as a strategic signal rather than routine local politics, Okorugbo called on other LGAs within Delta Central Senatorial District to align early in support of the senator’s re-election bid.
“Political momentum should not be observed from a distance,” he stated, urging ward leaders and party stakeholders across the district to move from private agreement to public commitment in order to prevent internal divisions and consolidate party unity.
He argued that Delta Central cannot afford political uncertainty at a time when federal leverage, economic negotiations, and legislative ranking are critical.
Okorugbo concluded that unity and early alignment would strengthen the APC’s structure in the senatorial district and position Delta Central for greater influence, emphasizing that “when a leader is honoured at home, the pathway to victory becomes clearer and more coordinated.”
