The House of Representatives has raised alarm over an alleged terrorist threat targeting the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
Chairman of the House Committee on Internal Security, Hon. Garba Muhammad, disclosed during Tuesday’s plenary that credible intelligence reports had warned of plans by terrorist elements to bomb the National Assembly.
Muhammad said the information, which has already been shared with relevant security agencies, underscores the urgent need to fortify the National Assembly complex and enhance surveillance around the premises.
He urged the leadership of the National Assembly to collaborate closely with the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies to strengthen security architecture within the legislative complex.
Lawmakers expressed concern that the National Assembly—being a critical symbol of democracy—must not be left vulnerable to attacks, especially given the heightened insecurity across the country.
The House resolved to engage security chiefs immediately and ensure that proactive measures are taken to protect legislators, staff, and visitors to the complex
