We don’t want war – Iran’s supreme leader says in written message

Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has stated that the country does not seek conflict with the United States or Israel, but remains resolute in defending its national rights.

In a written message broadcast on state television, Khamenei said, “We did not seek war and we do not want it,” emphasizing Iran’s position amid ongoing tensions in the region.

The message coincided with 40 days since the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed on February 28, marking the beginning of the current conflict.

Khamenei stressed that Iran would not compromise on what it considers its legitimate rights under any circumstances. He also referenced the broader “resistance front,” an apparent nod to regional allies including Hezbollah, which has been engaged in conflict with Israel.

The statement comes as Iran recently agreed to a fragile two-week ceasefire with the United States, raising the possibility of future peace negotiations. The development follows heightened tensions and strong rhetoric from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Despite the ceasefire, Khamenei urged citizens to remain actively engaged, noting that public demonstrations still play a role in shaping the outcome of negotiations.

“Your voices in public squares are undoubtedly influential,” he said in the televised message.
