The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has emphasized the importance of cordial relations between the executive and legislative arms of government, saying such cooperation is essential for the timely presentation and passage of budgets.
Wike made the remarks on Friday during a “thank you” visit to Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Drawing from his experience as former governor of Rivers State, Wike recalled that his administration enjoyed a harmonious working relationship with the State House of Assembly under the leadership of former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Owaji Ibani. He said the cooperation between both arms of government at the time contributed significantly to the prompt presentation and approval of budget proposals.

His comments come against the backdrop of ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, where members of the State House of Assembly have reportedly raised concerns over the alleged failure of Governor Siminalayi Fubara to present Appropriation Bills to the legislature amid a protracted political crisis. The situation has also been linked to reported impeachment threats against the governor.
Wike also stressed the need for unity among political actors in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that cohesion would be necessary to confront emerging political challenges.
According to the minister, no single political party holds absolute dominance in the state. He argued that only a broad-based alliance, which he described as a “rainbow coalition,” would be capable of prevailing in future electoral contests.
