Amid lingering internal divisions and a prolonged leadership crisis, Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called on the national working committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to begin reconciling with former members and encouraging their return.
Speaking on Friday during a visit to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Wike emphasized the need for unity and rebuilding, noting that many Nigerians still identify with the PDP despite its recent challenges.
The appeal comes in the wake of months of internal strife that weakened the party’s structure and public image. The crisis escalated earlier this year, prompting the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to seal the party’s headquarters after clashes linked to rival factions.
However, in a dramatic turn on April 10, a faction aligned with Wike regained control of the secretariat, signaling a possible shift in the party’s internal power dynamics.
Wike urged party leaders, including NWC chairman Abduraham Mohammed, to prioritize reconciliation efforts, warning that continued division could further erode the party’s influence ahead of future elections.
He maintained that rebuilding trust among aggrieved members and presenting a united front would be critical to restoring the PDP’s standing as a major political force in Nigeria.
