Health workers in Delta State have thrown their weight behind President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 general elections, endorsing both leaders in recognition of what they described as their administrations’ positive contributions to healthcare delivery and workers’ welfare.
The endorsement was announced at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Asaba, the state capital, where health sector professionals and government officials discussed developments in healthcare, professional responsibilities and government policies.
Speaking at the event, the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme, said the decision to support Governor Oborevwori’s second-term ambition was driven by the administration’s interventions and commitment to improving the health sector.
He urged healthcare professionals across the state to remain dedicated to their duties and sustain their support for government policies and programmes aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving the well-being of residents.
Also speaking, the Director of Protocol, Government House, Chief Sunday Onoriode, commended health workers for their commitment, sacrifices and contributions to maintaining effective healthcare services across the state.
Onoriode urged the workers to take the message of support for Tinubu and Oborevwori to their respective communities and mobilise grassroots backing for both leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.
He described the endorsement as a show of appreciation for what he characterised as the contributions of the two administrations to governance, development and the welfare of Nigerians and Deltans.
He further expressed confidence that the Oborevwori administration would sustain its development drive through the MORE Agenda, noting that its policies and programmes were designed to improve the living conditions of residents.
The Chairman of the Delta State Hospitals Management Board, Dr Paul Oweh, and other speakers also declared support for Oborevwori’s re-election bid, citing government initiatives which they said had enhanced the working conditions of health professionals and improved access to healthcare services.
Meanwhile, the gathering also featured a health sensitisation session on Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), during which the Delta State Epidemiologist, Dr Mildred Okowa-Igumbor, called on residents to remain vigilant and observe recommended preventive measures.
Okowa-Igumbor disclosed that no case of Ebola had been recorded in Delta State, assuring residents that there was no immediate cause for alarm.
She, however, emphasised the importance of continuous public awareness, prompt reporting of suspected cases and strict compliance with established health guidelines to prevent possible outbreaks.
A major highlight of the meeting was the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Governor Oborevwori by the Delta State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives in recognition of his administration’s contributions to the development of the health sector.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders in Delta State’s healthcare sector to review progress in service delivery, acknowledge government interventions and explore ways to strengthen healthcare services, with participants also using the occasion to declare their political allegiance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
