Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called on residents of Oredo Local Government Area to intensify grassroots mobilisation for President Bola Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, as he pushes to secure 2.5 million votes for the President in the state.
Okpebholo gave the charge during the APC campaign rally in Oredo, where he expressed confidence that Edo residents would rally behind Tinubu and other party candidates across all levels of government in the forthcoming elections.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr Patrick Akhere Ebojele, Okpebholo said his administration’s achievements in security, road infrastructure, urban renewal and other sectors would serve as key selling points for the APC during the 2027 campaigns.
He maintained that projects being executed across the state were visible evidence of his government’s commitment to development, arguing that social media criticisms did not necessarily reflect the views of the majority of residents.
The governor recounted an encounter with one of his administration’s critics, who reportedly acknowledged the government’s achievements after personally visiting Edo State.
He said the individual admitted that although he frequently criticised the administration on social media to attract followers, he had observed significant development projects across the state.
Okpebholo listed improvements in security, the Sapele Road corridor, road construction, flyovers, markets, schools and the development of the new Government Reserved Area (GRA) among the achievements his administration would showcase to voters.
The governor also criticised some politicians seeking public office, alleging that certain individuals were interested in using political power and security agencies to dispossess innocent residents of their lands.
Urging residents to support continuity in governance, Okpebholo called on APC members to mobilise their families, friends and associates to vote for Tinubu and other party candidates in 2027.
He reiterated his administration’s target of securing 2.5 million votes for the President in Edo State, stressing that every vote would count under the principle of one man, one vote.
Earlier, Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections, arguing that the quality of candidates presented by political parties would play a decisive role in determining electoral success.
Idahosa assured the governor that Edo State would deliver the required votes for Tinubu, while commending him for executing infrastructure projects that would serve as campaign talking points for the party.
“Once you have good candidates for an election, the election is 100 per cent won. President Tinubu will get 100 per cent of what he needs from Edo State. Mr Governor, thank you for giving us projects to campaign with,” the deputy governor said.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the Edo State Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, described Oredo as a strategic political constituency in Edo South Senatorial District.
He challenged APC leaders and supporters in the local government to work towards securing more than 100,000 votes for the party, saying the target would contribute significantly to the governor’s 2.5 million-vote projection for Tinubu.
The APC State Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, alongside Ogbeide Ihama, Paddy Iyamu and other party chieftains, also called for unity, stronger grassroots mobilisation and sustained engagement ahead of the general elections.
The rally attracted party leaders, elected officials, supporters and grassroots mobilisers from across Oredo Local Government Area as the APC stepped up its political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
