Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a leading figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nyesom Wike, has urged party members and aspirants to brace for a tough political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that political power is earned through struggle, determination and hard work.
Speaking on Wednesday at the PDP’s 109th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Wike told party faithful that the opposition cannot expect to regain power through entitlement, but must remain organised, resilient and committed to the task ahead.
According to the former Rivers State governor, success in politics often comes through perseverance in the face of challenges, including intimidation, legal battles and political pressure.
“Nobody gives power. Power is taken. You must fight for it to take it. Nobody gives power, and nobody is ready to dash you power. You have to struggle for it. You have to fight for it. You don’t have to be afraid,” Wike declared.
The FCT minister also addressed ongoing internal disputes and legal challenges within the party, expressing confidence that they would not hinder the PDP’s preparations for future elections.
“As far as I am concerned, June 26 is when they will give the access code to political parties to upload results. Don’t worry, we are good to go. Nobody is afraid of court; courts are meant for human beings, not ghosts,” he said.
Wike’s remarks come amid renewed efforts by the PDP to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 elections, with party leaders seeking to strengthen internal unity and rebuild support across the country.
The former governor urged party members to remain focused and committed to the party’s goals, insisting that victory would only come through collective effort and political mobilisation.
