The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially screened and cleared former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, to contest in the party’s presidential primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Chairman of the NDC National Screening Committee and former Ebonyi State governor, Sam Egwu, in a video shared on the party’s official X account.
According to Egwu, the screening committee confirmed that Obi fulfilled all constitutional and statutory requirements needed to participate in the party’s presidential race.
“This is to certify that, following the screening of His Excellency Peter Obi by the National Screening Committee of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, and having satisfied ourselves that he has complied with all the requirements of the constitution of the party, the Electoral Act, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he is hereby cleared to contest in the presidential primaries of the party for the 2027 presidential election,” Egwu stated.
Reacting through his official X account, Obi disclosed that the screening exercise, held in Abuja on May 19, lasted more than two and a half hours.
He explained that members of the committee thoroughly examined his credentials, including his degree certificates, NYSC documents, and age declaration papers, while also questioning him about his vision and plans for Nigeria.
Obi described the exercise as detailed and engaging, noting that he appreciated the opportunity to present his ideas for the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
