The national leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Senator Seriake Dickson, on Saturday unveiled former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Obi emerged as the party’s flag bearer at a special national convention held in Abuja following a motion for his adoption, which was seconded by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District.
Moments after securing the party’s ticket, Obi announced former Kano State Governor and ex-Minister of Defence, Musa Kwankwaso, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The development has further reshaped the political landscape ahead of the next general election, setting the stage for what observers describe as a potential three-way contest among leading opposition figures.
Obi’s emergence comes just days after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was declared winner of the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), held on Wednesday.
