2027:Fubara Declares for Rivers Governorship Under NDC, Promises Change

Ambassador Blessing Fubara Senior, elder brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), pledging to serve only one term if elected.

Speaking ahead of the party’s governorship primaries, Fubara said his ambition was driven by a desire to restore peace, economic prosperity, and political stability in Rivers State.

The governorship aspirant described himself as a “ready, competent, and energetic” candidate committed to rebuilding the state and returning it to its former status as one of Nigeria’s leading economic hubs.

According to him, Rivers State has suffered economic decline, loss of investments, and growing hardship among residents, a situation he said requires urgent collective action from all stakeholders irrespective of political or ethnic affiliations.

“We must rise across party lines and unite to take back our state and return Rivers State to the zenith it once occupied as the treasure base of the nation,” he said.

Fubara lamented what he described as the current distressed state of Rivers, insisting that the people of the state must reject any narrative of political defeat or marginalisation.

“Today, we see a Rivers State that is distressed. Today, we see a Rivers State that is shortchanged. Today, we see a Rivers State that is almost seeming like a conquered state. No, we are not conquered people,” he declared.

The NDC aspirant also called on supporters across the 23 local government areas of the state to participate actively in the party primaries, claiming he enjoys the backing of more than two million registered members of the party statewide.

Fubara further pledged to spend only one four-year term in office if elected governor, explaining that the decision was aimed at preserving the state’s senatorial rotation arrangement and ensuring fairness in power sharing.
