At least fifteen people have been rescued after a two-storey building collapsed in the early hours of Monday at No. 54 Cole Street, Cemetery Bus Stop, Oyingbo area of Lagos.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around dawn when most residents were still indoors. Local emergency teams, including officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), responded swiftly to the scene, pulling trapped victims from the rubble.

Confirming the incident, LASEMA officials said rescue operations were ongoing as they continued to search for any remaining occupants who might still be trapped beneath the debris.

No deaths have been confirmed so far, but several of the rescued individuals sustained various degrees of injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities have since cordoned off the site to prevent further casualties, while investigations are underway to determine the cause of the collapse. Residents in the area say the building had shown visible signs of structural weakness before the incident.

Building collapses remain a recurring challenge in Lagos, often attributed to poor construction practices, use of substandard materials, and inadequate regulatory oversight.
