Benin City, Edo State — The Edo State Waste Management Board (EWMB) has intensified its public sensitization campaign across major streets and markets in Benin City as part of efforts to promote environmental cleanliness and proper waste management across the state.
The exercise, led by the Managing Director of the Board, Amb. Dr. Lucky Enehita-Inegbenehi, focused on educating residents and traders on the importance of proper waste disposal and compliance with the state’s waste management regulations.
Speaking during the sensitization exercise at Idahosa Street, off Mission Road, Dr. Enehita-Inegbenehi emphasized that all traders are required to engage only accredited waste collectors and obtain valid waste collection receipts as proof of compliance.
He warned that failure to patronize licensed waste collectors often leads to indiscriminate refuse disposal, with waste frequently dumped on road medians, street corners, and drainage channels, posing serious environmental and public health risks.
The Managing Director urged residents and business owners to support the Board’s efforts by complying with established waste management guidelines and working collectively to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
According to him, environmental sanitation is a shared responsibility that requires the active participation of every resident to ensure a cleaner and more sustainable Edo State.
