The 9th edition of the UBTH CMD Cup began on a thrilling note as UBTH FC powered to a commanding 3–0 victory over Physiotherapy FC in the tournament’s opening match.

The competition was officially declared open with a ceremonial kickoff by the Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, whose presence set an energetic tone for the weeks ahead. She was accompanied by several distinguished guests, including her husband, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu; the MD/CEO of New Edo Line, Ms. Tinyan Otuomagie; members of the UBTH Management Team; and other notable supporters who filled the stands.

UBTH FC wasted no time stamping their authority on the contest. Team captain Okuonghae Edosa opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a precise finish that sent fans roaring. Emmanuel Jack doubled the lead early in the second half, striking in the 48th minute, before Obruche Silver sealed the win with a clinical effort in the 70th minute. All three goals came from open play, highlighting UBTH FC’s dominance throughout the fixture.

Captain Edosa, who spearheaded the attack with confidence and composure, earned the Man of the Match award for his outstanding leadership and performance.

With such an electrifying start, expectations are high as the 9th CMD Cup promises more action, excitement, and top-tier football in the days ahead.
