Delta State Internal Revenue Service Achieves Record-Breaking IGR Performance in 2025

The Delta State Board of Internal Revenue Service, IRS, has announced a remarkable performance in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) collections for the 2025 fiscal year, exceeding its target and setting a new record for the state.

 

The Executive Chairman of the Board, Hon (Chief) Solomon Ighrakpata who stated this in his end of the year report, said the Service generated N202,487,494,875.67 [Two Hundred and Two Billion, Four Hundred and Eighty-Seven Million, Four Hundred and Ninety-Four Thousand, Eight Hundred and Seventy-Five Naira and Sixty-Seven Kobo], representing 151.01% of the N134,092,848,109.00 [One Hundred and Thirty-Four Billion, Ninety-Two Million, Eight Hundred and Forty-Eight Thousand, One Hundred and Nine Naira] target set for 2025.

 

The achievement according to Hon Ighrakpata surpasses the N157,785,188,072.55 [One Hundred and Fifty-Seven Billion, Seven Hundred and Eighty-Five Million, One Hundred and Eighty-Eight Thousand, Seventy-Two Naira and Fifty-Five Kobo] collected in 2024, marking a 128.33% increase.

 

The Executive Chairman attributed the success story to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to development and good governance in the state.

 

Ighrakpata explained that visible infrastructure projects and sustained security efforts by Governor Oborevwori have attracted investments and continued to encouraged voluntary tax compliance in the state.

 

The IRS Boss also acknowledged the support of various stakeholders, including government agencies, revenue consultants, and taxpayers.

 

“I wish to express our profound gratitude to His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State for the political will and support, which has boosted our confidence in revenue drive.

 

“Again the visible infrastructure projects executed by His Excellency, the Governor across the three Senatorial Districts of the State and the security and peace building efforts have attracted a lot of investments to the State and engendered the culture of voluntary tax compliance in line with the provisions of extant Laws”, Ighrakpata said.

 

The Executive Chairman appreciated the Secretary to the State Government, Commissioners for Finance, Economic Planning, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice as well as the Permanent Secretary cum Accountant-General of the state for their administrative supports, which he noted was instrumental to the remarkable success.

 

“I am immensely grateful to the members of the Board of Delta State Internal Revenue Service, the Executive Directors, Management and staff of the Service for culture of collaboration and teamwork, hard work and dedication, which have paid off in terms of increased IGR collections since we took over the business of revenue generation in the month of July, 2023.

 

“With the support of all relevant stakeholders including the State Government, the Board of the Delta State Internal Service, the lead revenue Consultants (ICMA Professional Service and Zopaz Advisory Service), the State Assembly, the Judiciary, Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government, Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the State Government, the Security Agencies, the Revenue Collecting Banks, the Organized Private Sector, Professional Bodies, Unions, Trade Associations, Business Groups, Traditional Institutions, Local Government Authorities and the Media, the Service will continue to deliver on its mandate of shoring up the IGR for the overall development of our dear State”, Ighrakpata stressed .
