Bishop Dr. Prophet Ambassador Kingsley Majemite, popularly known as Obeba 1, has expressed deep concern over the growing menace of drug abuse among youths in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, calling on government and relevant security agencies to take immediate and decisive action to curb the trend.

The respected Okpe cleric and politician urged youths, particularly those in Sapele and its environs, to shun drug abuse and other social vices, and instead embrace responsible living. He reminded them that they are leaders of tomorrow and ambassadors of the nation, whose actions today will determine the future of society.

Bishop Majemite lamented the alarming rate at which young people in Sapele are indulging in drugs, warning that continued abuse poses a serious threat to their health, future, and overall wellbeing. According to him, many promising youths are gradually destroying their lives through substance abuse.

Speaking during a media interview at his residence in Sapele, the cleric noted that the influence of drugs has led to abnormal behavior among many youths, both male and female, thereby creating disturbances and insecurity within the community.

He cited a recent incident in Sapele where a young man narrowly escaped death after consuming excessive amounts of hard drugs, including Colorado. Bishop Majemite revealed that the victim was only saved through the timely intervention of concerned residents in the area.

The Bishop expressed shock at the level of open drug consumption in the area, questioning whether drug abuse had been unofficially legalized, given the impunity with which youths now engage in the act without apparent consequences.

He therefore called on the Sapele Local Government Council Chairman, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and other relevant government authorities to rise to the occasion by enforcing existing laws, intensifying sensitization campaigns, and implementing measures aimed at saving the youths and protecting society from the growing drug abuse menace.
