SAPELE—Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel, have unanimously passed a vote of explicit confidence on the Executive Committee (Exco) led by its Chairman, Comrade Nelson Agbajor, while also constituting an Election and Credentials Committee ahead of the Chapel’s forthcoming elections scheduled for March 2026.
The resolutions were reached at a well-attended Congress of the Chapel held on Monday, February 10, 2026, reflecting members’ broad satisfaction with the leadership style, transparency, and unity that have characterised the Agbajor administration since it assumed office.
Moving the motion for the vote of confidence, Comrade Victor Otuya commended the Chairman and his team for what he described as steady, people-centred, and visionary leadership. He noted that the current Exco has strengthened professional cohesion among members, prioritised welfare issues, improved stakeholder engagement, and restored dignity to the affairs of the Chapel.
According to Otuya, the Agbajor-led Exco has demonstrated administrative competence and humility, fostering internal peace while consistently protecting and projecting the interests of journalists covering Sapele and its environs.
The motion was seconded by Comrade Wilson Macaulay, with several members lending their voices in support. Speakers including Comrade Malcolm Tagbarha, Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor, Comrade Peace Caleb, and others described the confidence vote as timely and well-deserved, citing the Exco’s open-door policy, commitment to ethical journalism, and cordial relationship with government institutions, security agencies, and the general public.
When put to a voice vote, the motion received overwhelming approval, accompanied by sustained applause from members of Congress.
In a related development, and in line with the NUJ Constitution and democratic best practices, the Chapel also constituted an Election/Credentials Committee to oversee the conduct of the forthcoming Chapel election.
The committee is mandated to screen aspirants, verify credentials, issue election guidelines, and conduct a transparent, free, and fair electoral process in accordance with constitutional provisions.
Members of the committee are Comrade Hope Akaezue (Chairman), Comrade Nicholas Omoko (Secretary), and Comrade Victor Otuya (Member). The announcement was greeted with widespread approval, as members expressed confidence in the committee’s integrity and capacity to deliver a credible process.
Responding to the vote of confidence, Comrade Nelson Agbajor expressed deep appreciation to members for the trust reposed in his leadership, describing the gesture as both humbling and motivating.
“This vote of confidence is not just for me, but for the entire Exco and the spirit of unity that defines the Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel,” Agbajor said. “It challenges us to do more in upholding professionalism, defending the integrity of journalism, and advancing the welfare of our members.”
He assured members of the Exco’s full support for the Election/Credentials Committee and pledged that the electoral process would remain transparent, peaceful, and credible.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, its Chairman, Comrade Hope Akaezue, thanked members for the confidence reposed in them and assured that the committee would strictly operate within the provisions of the NUJ Constitution
