Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi  Dennis Guwor, on Tuesday welcomed delegation of Bayelsa State legislators to Asaba for a five-day retreat aimed at strengthening legislative competence in Bayelsa State.

Rt Hon Guwor in his goodwill message at a brief session with the Bayelsa lawmakers, recalled their earlier promise to return to Delta after last year’s visit and affirmed that Delta remains their second home.

He emphasized the deep historical, cultural and economic ties that bind the two states, noting shared challenges such as environmental pollution and the need for sustainable development.

“The Bayelsa and Delta are more than neighbours; we are family. We share a tapestry of history, culture, food, festivals, and the same environmental and developmental challenges. As oil‑producing states, we must work together to protect our people and our land”, Guwor said.

The Speaker described the theme of the retreat “Leadership, Stakeholder Management, and Socio‑economic Growth in Bayelsa State,” as timely and relevant to the everyday realities in their various constituencies.

He expressed confidence that the retreat would provide fresh perspectives and enhance the legislators’ capacity to deliver effective governance.

Guwor also highlighted the importance of inter‑legislative partnership, stating that collaboration on environmental protection, resource governance and economic opportunities could yield greater results for both states.

He extended a warm invitation to the Bayelsa delegation to explore Delta and to engage fully in the retreat’s sessions.

The Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly Rt  Hon Abraham  Ingobere, commended the warm reception always accorded members in Delta State, underscoring a growing tradition of mutual exchange of ideas for development between the two states.

The five day Programme is being moderated by the African Parliamentary Resource Center led by the Executive Director, Dr John Mutu and designed to foster dialogue on legislative best practices and strategies for sustainable development in Bayelsa State.
