TWO GENERALS OF THE SAME PARENT, BUT NEVER SAW EYE-TO-EYE

Two brothers. Two Army Generals. One family name  but a relationship defined by deep rivalry rather than unity.

Meet Musa Bamaiyi and Ishaya Bamaiyi, the Kebbi-born brothers who both rose to national prominence in Nigeria’s military and security structure.

Major-General Musa Bamaiyi served as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), while his younger brother, Lt-General Ishaya Bamaiyi, climbed even higher in the military hierarchy, becoming Chief of Army Staff during the military era.

On paper, it was an extraordinary story — two sons of the same father, both attaining the rank of General in the Nigerian Army. But behind the medals and titles was a bitter and long-standing feud.

Those who knew them described Musa as outspoken, abrasive, and brash. Their relationship reportedly deteriorated over personal issues, particularly allegations made by Musa against Ishaya concerning Musa’s wife — accusations Ishaya strongly denied.

The disagreement deepened the divide between them. Adding another layer to their complex story was religion: Musa was a Muslim, while Ishaya is a Christian, a reflection of the diverse paths taken within the same household.

Despite their shared bloodline and distinguished careers, the two brothers never reconciled. The rift reportedly lasted until Musa’s passing, leaving behind one of the most unusual sibling rivalries in Nigeria’s military history.
Today, Musa is late, while Ishaya remains alive — a reminder that even in the corridors of power, family conflicts can run deeper than rank or uniform.
