Residents of Idoa community in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State have been thrown into mourning following the killing of a palace chief, Chief Jimah Jacob Ogboe, by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.
The attackers reportedly stormed the chief’s residence on Monday night, shooting him dead, injuring his wife, and abducting two of his daughters.
According to the Edo Central Correspondent of Independent Television (ITV) Benin, Chris Omijie, who visited the community to assess the situation, the incident has left residents in shock, with palpable tension and fear hanging over the area.
Community members described the attack as tragic and unsettling, noting that the late chief was a respected figure in Idoa. As of the time of filing this report, security agencies are yet to issue an official statement, while efforts are said to be ongoing to rescue the abducted children and apprehend the perpetrators.
The incident has further heightened concerns over security in parts of Edo Central, as residents call for increased protection and swift action from relevant authorities.
