DELSU TO BUILD A BEFITTING STADIUM, MORE HOSTEL BLOCKS – Prof. Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba

The Vice Chancellor Delta State University Abraka, Prof Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba stated this while recieving the national fund raising committee of DELSU Alumni who came on a Courtesy Visit to his office on thursday.

 

The Vice Chancellor in his remarks announced plans that the management of DELSU under his leadership will build a beffiting multi purpose, sports complex Stadium through fundraising donations from well meaning individuals and corporate organisations like the DELSU Alumni. He added that a Committee have been set up for that purpose.

 

Prof Asagba also announced that DELSU will build a 1,000-Bed Capacity Hostel through the Central Bank Intervention Fund, adding that more Hostel facilities will be built via the Tetiary Education Trust Fund and Public Private Partnership.

 

“We have confirmation from the Central Bank of Nigeria of an intervention fund to build a 1,000-bed capacity hostel for our institution. I can also confirm to you that the TETFUND is internvening in the areas of building more hostel accommodations to ease challenges faced by students”, he revealed.

 

The Professor explained further that “the Niger Delta Development Commission has committed to complete the building of uncompleted hostel infrastructure at the institution to accomodate more student of the institution, which currently stands at over 30,000”, he said.

 

Asagba therfore urge the national body of DELSU Alumni to partner with the institution to address infrastructural needs.

 

Earlier, the DELSU National Fund Raising Committee Chairman, Sir Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje, who is also the Chairman Delta State Bureau for Pensions, in his speech to Prof Asagba, explained that the committee thought it necessary to intimate him of the plans by the national alumni body to execute some projects in the institution.

 

Said Ogidi-Gbegbaje, “The purpose of our visit is to inform you of the existence of this committee and the list of projects we are set out to complete in the institution.

 

“We intend to construct a 100-Room Hostel Block, a multi purpose Alumni Building complex and the establishment of an E-Library to enhance digital learning experience” Ogidi-Gbegbaje said emphasising, “it is our deliberate intention to execute these projects in line with the needs of the institution”, he concluded.
