Suspected political thugs on Thursday night set ablaze the office of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ubima Community, hometown of former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi, located in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
According to a report by Vanguard Newspaper, the attackers also invaded the community with heavy gunfire, shooting sporadically and creating panic among residents.
Amaechi, a key figure in the ADC, is expected to visit Ubima on Friday to formally register with the party at the ward level. The ADC is among opposition parties positioning to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Sources told Vanguard that the assailants stormed the community late Thursday night, firing shots before setting the party’s secretariat on fire.
The report further stated that the gunmen returned on Friday morning and mounted a roadblock along the Omuawa–Ubima Road, stopping buses displaying ADC banners from entering the community.
However, normalcy was later restored following the intervention of security operatives who were mobilised to the area.
