President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has concluded a historic two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, departing London on Thursday night following engagements hosted by the British royal family.
According to official reports, President Tinubu, accompanied by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, had travelled from Abuja on Tuesday, March 17, at the invitation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
During the visit, the President and his delegation were received at Windsor Castle, where they stayed from March 18 to March 19. The trip marked the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years and made Tinubu the first Nigerian President to be hosted at Windsor Castle by a reigning British monarch.
The visit underscored the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, with both sides exploring deeper cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, immigration, and cultural exchange. As part of the programme, the royal hosts showcased a curated exhibition from the Royal Collection highlighting historical artefacts connected to Nigeria.
President Tinubu also held high-level talks with Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street. The meeting resulted in expanded bilateral engagement and the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding covering trade, defence, investment, and cultural collaboration.
The visit concluded with a state banquet hosted by the Royal Family in honour of the Nigerian delegation, further reinforcing diplomatic ties between both nations.
