Tony Wilson, bassist and co-founder of Hot Chocolate and co-writer of the iconic 1975 hit You Sexy Thing, has died at the age of 78 in Trinidad.
His daughter confirmed his passing in a Facebook post, stating that he died on April 24, 2026. She shared a heartfelt tribute, reflecting on his final days and expressing gratitude for meaningful conversations they had shortly before his death.
“Dad left us today… He left a lot of music behind… forever and ever,” she wrote, adding that he had found spiritual peace in his final moments. She described a sense of comfort in believing that he is now at rest, encouraging others to reflect on life and eternity.
Wilson played a pivotal role in forming Hot Chocolate in London in 1969 alongside Errol Brown. The band rose to become one of the most successful British acts of the 1970s, delivering a string of international hits and earning widespread acclaim.
They were also among the first predominantly Black British bands to achieve major success in the United States, helping to pave the way for future generations of artists.
Wilson’s contributions to music especially his work on You Sexy Thing—remain enduring, with the song continuing to resonate with audiences around the world.
