The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State has advised motorists to limit their movements and avoid speeding during the Easter period to reduce the risk of road accidents.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, the Itori Unit Commander of the FRSC, Babatunde Gold, said the caution was necessary to prevent avoidable loss of lives typically associated with festive travel.
Gold noted that staying off the roads unless absolutely necessary could significantly lower the chances of being involved in crashes. He appealed to motorists to minimise non-essential journeys during the holiday.
He also urged drivers who must travel to exercise caution by obeying traffic rules, avoiding one-way driving, and refraining from competing with other road users.
According to him, motorists should ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any trip and cooperate with FRSC officials, who will be conducting special patrols to manage emergencies and curb reckless driving.
Gold added that these measures are aimed at reducing preventable accidents during the Easter celebrations and beyond.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, as public holidays to mark the Easter festivities.
