President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle affecting the membership of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), with changes announced in the finance and housing portfolios.

According to a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, two ministers—Wale Edun and Ahmed Musa Dangiwa are to exit the cabinet, while replacements and new appointments have been approved.

The memo stated that Edun, who served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who is now elevated from Minister of State to assume the position.

In the housing sector, the President named Muttaqha Rabe Darma as ministerial nominee and Minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. The outgoing minister, Dangiwa, has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry.

The directive mandates that all handover processes be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume said the changes are intended to strengthen cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as enhance economic delivery in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving the changes.

The President also commended the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors, while assuring that efforts to reinvigorate the cabinet would remain ongoing.

The statement was issued by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
