Nigeria’s newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has vowed to deepen the country’s global engagement by building on the administration’s 4D Foreign Policy framework and strengthening citizen-focused diplomacy.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who was elevated from Minister of State to substantive Minister on Tuesday, April 29, 2026, expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in her. She reaffirmed her commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s national interests and enhancing its international standing.
She made these remarks during a dinner hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to conclude a three-day induction programme for Ambassadors and High Commissioners-designate, as well as their spouses—her first official engagement in the new role.
In a statement issued by her Special Assistant on Communication and New Media, Magnus Eze, the minister called on envoys, ministry staff, and management to collaborate in projecting a positive image of Nigeria globally while prioritizing national interests.
Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) account, Odumegwu-Ojukwu said she was “truly honoured” and “humbled” by the appointment, pledging to contribute meaningfully to the success of the government’s foreign policy direction.
“I look forward to contributing even more to the continued success of the 4D Foreign Policy Priorities of the Renewed Hope Agenda and our citizen diplomacy imperatives,” she stated, reaffirming her dedication to advancing Nigeria’s role on the global stage.
Before her elevation, she had served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs since November 4, 2024.
Nigeria’s 4D Foreign Policy—anchored on Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora was introduced shortly after President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023. The framework was formally unveiled in August 2023 by former Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, as a strategic guide to reposition Nigeria’s foreign relations.
The policy underscores a shift toward a more proactive, citizen-centered, and economically driven diplomatic approach aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s influence and partnerships worldwide.
