Why Oshiomhole’s Humility Still Resonates With Ordinary Nigerians-Omo-Ikirodah

Former Edo State governor and senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, continues to enjoy grassroots appeal not only because of the political offices he has occupied over the years, but also due to what supporters describe as his enduring simplicity and accessibility.

According to Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah, Principal and CEO of Bush Radio Academy, Oshiomhole’s ability to remain connected to ordinary Nigerians has become one of his strongest political attributes in an era where power often creates distance between leaders and the people.

Omo-Ikirodah noted that despite serving in some of Nigeria’s most influential positions, Oshiomhole has maintained close ties with market women, workers, students, and grassroots party members.

He attributed this enduring connection to the former labour leader’s roots in the labour movement, where Oshiomhole built his reputation as a voice for the common people.

“In politics, titles often change people. Power creates distance and protocol builds walls. But every now and then, a leader emerges whose greatest political asset is not the office he occupies, but the simplicity he retains,” he said.

The media executive further stressed that leadership is not always measured by status or ceremony, but by how approachable a leader remains to ordinary citizens.

“Sometimes leadership is about how many people feel comfortable walking up to you,” he added.

Omo-Ikirodah argued that Oshiomhole’s political staying power may lie in the humility he has continued to display despite years in public office.

“The higher a leader rises, the more valuable humility becomes. Power may open doors, but humility keeps them open,” he stated.
