The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has confirmed a fresh outbreak of the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with at least 65 deaths and 246 suspected infections recorded in Ituri province.

Health authorities say emergency response teams have been deployed to contain the spread of the deadly disease, which remains one of the world’s most dangerous viral infections. Officials are also intensifying surveillance, contact tracing, and public awareness campaigns in affected communities.

Ebola is a severe and often fatal illness that spreads through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected persons, contaminated surfaces, or the bodies of those who have died from the disease. Symptoms commonly include fever, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, and in severe cases, internal and external bleeding.

The latest outbreak has raised concerns across the region, as Congo has experienced multiple Ebola outbreaks in recent years. Health experts are urging residents to observe safety guidelines and report suspected symptoms early to prevent further transmission.
