member of the House of Representatives and former Minority Leader of the Green Chamber, Kingsley Chinda, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chinda secured the party’s ticket during the APC governorship primary election held on Thursday in Rivers State, where he contested unopposed.
Announcing the result, Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Bitrus Kwamoti, declared Chinda the duly elected candidate of the party after the completion of the voting and collation process.
The emergence of Chinda, who is widely regarded as a political ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is expected to further shape the political dynamics in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.
Party leaders and supporters at the venue of the exercise described the primary as peaceful and orderly, expressing confidence in Chinda’s political experience and leadership capacity.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Chinda reportedly appreciated party delegates and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to work towards strengthening the APC and delivering effective leadership for the people of Rivers State if elected governor in 2027.
His emergence now sets the stage for what is expected to be a keenly contested governorship race in one of Nigeria’s politically strategic states.
