President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina, a 39-year-old professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Aina is expected to take over from Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose second and final tenure as JAMB Registrar will officially end on July 31, 2026.
The appointment marks a significant transition in the leadership of the examination body, with many observers describing it as a move aimed at sustaining innovation and strengthening technology-driven reforms within JAMB.
Professor Aina, known for his expertise in computer engineering and digital systems, has built a strong academic reputation at Obafemi Awolowo University through his contributions to research, innovation and technological development.
His appointment is also being viewed as a reflection of the Tinubu administration’s growing emphasis on youth inclusion and technocratic leadership in key public institutions.
Professor Oloyede, whom Aina will succeed, is widely credited for introducing major reforms in JAMB, including improvements in transparency, examination management and revenue generation during his tenure.
With his background in technology and academia, stakeholders expect Aina to continue reforms aimed at enhancing the efficiency, credibility and digital transformation of Nigeria’s tertiary admission system.
